Drew Thomas

Vice President, Geoscience and Business Development.

Drew Thomas joined Nexus in February 2022 as Vice President, Geology and Business Development. Mr. Thomas brings over 10 years of oil and gas experience working on multi-disciplinary teams to high grade our subsurface investments, while also working with the business development team to expand on our current assets. He is also a key leader of our business development team researching and exploring the diversification our future investments in the current energy landscape. 

Mr. Thomas started his career with Samson Resources in Tulsa, OK. During his time there he worked Mid-Con, Gulf Coast, and Rockies assets with experience in operations and exploration. He then joined Apache Corporation in 2013 and began working on exploitation and exploration projects in the Mid-Con. Mr. Thomas was a key member of the asset team that established Apache’s acreage position in the SCOOP play, leading to the first Woodford wells drilled by Apache in Oklahoma. After leaving Apache Mr. Thomas joined Casillas Petroleum Resource Partners, a private equity company backed by Kayne-Anderson, as a senior geologist. He was an integral part of the team that acquired over 42,000 acres for a total of $400MM, while drilling 70+ horizontal wells in the Mississippian and Woodford plays in southern OK. In total $660MM in capital was deployed on drilling activity and acreage acquisitions while achieving IRR’s over 20% and growing the acreage position to over 56,000 acres. Mr. Thomas was also the lead geologist in the exploration and acquisition that led to the formation of CPRP II, acquiring 12,000 acres from CVX in the highly economic Sho-Vel-Tum field during 2018. After drilling 3 horizontal wells, the position was successfully divested to CLR in October 2020. 

Mr. Thomas graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2010 with a B.S. in Geology from Missouri State University. He then graduated in 2012 with an M.S. in Geology from the University of Missouri. He is a member of the AAPG and Tulsa Geological Society, and serves on the Alumni Development Board for the University of Missouri Geology Dept.
