Skeet Peters
Vice President, Engineering
Skeet joined Nexus BSP as the Director of Engineering in May 2021. He brings 9+ years of experience as an Exploration & Development Reservoir Engineer, working with all contributing disciplines to the execution of oil & gas resource development and he has developed all the necessary skills to forecast the economic viability of drilling locations in order to deliver an objective, clear-eyed estimate of return on capital. Mr. Peters works closely with the CEO and business development team on creating and executing the company’s business development strategy, whether it be high grading our existing portfolio, identifying/executing on key areas of interest, or working on potential divestiture opportunities. He also manages the company’s reserves database, currently consisting of 8,000 net acres across 250+ horizontals in Oklahoma’s SCOOP and STACK plays, providing both short-term and long-term outlooks as well as working alongside our third-party engineer to prepare our annual reserve report.
His career began in Tulsa, OK with Cimarex Energy in the Anadarko Basin, working the Cana-Woodford shale play from January 2012 – May 2013. After this, Skeet joined the Cimarex Permian Region in Midland, TX. From May 2013 – August 2015, he was the lead reservoir engineer on the exploration and development of multiple zones across the Delaware Basin in New Mexico and Texas, gaining experience in the Leonard/Avalon shale, Bone Spring sands and Wolfcamp shale. In September 2015, Skeet rejoined the Cimarex Anadarko Basin Region in Tulsa, where he worked the STACK play (Meramec and Woodford shale) until departing for the role of Senior Reservoir Engineer with Casillas Petroleum Resource Partners, a Kayne-Anderson backed private equity company, in January 2017. CPRP entered Oklahoma’s SCOOP play in 2016 via the acquisition of ≈ 42,000 net acres from CHK and CLR for a total of $400MM. CPRP acquired these assets, which were 93% HBP with old vertical wells, with the intent to capture upside value through horizontal drilling and from 2017-2019, Mr. Peters was instrumental in doing so, growing the position to ≈ 56,000 net acres via strategic bolt-on acquisitions and delineating/developing the acreage by drilling and completing 71 horizontals. In aggregate, $660MM of capital was deployed, achieving IRR’s between 20%-100+% and growing the production base to a peak of 19,200 Boe/d (gross, 20:1) with an EUR of 44 MMBOE (gross, 20:1). During his time at CPRP, Mr. Peters was also the lead reservoir engineer in forming Casillas Petroleum Resource Partners II in August 2018 via the acquisition of ≈ 12,000 net acres from CVX in Oklahoma’s Shoveltum play. During 2019, CPRPII proved up the acreage by deploying $33MM to drill and complete 3 horizontals, achieving peak production of 3,760 Boe/d (gross, 20:1) and an EUR of 3 MMBOE (gross, 20:1). CPRPII successfully divested of the asset in October 2020 to CLR, achieving an attractive MOIC during an extremely tough season for the oil & gas business.
Mr. Peters graduated from the University of Tulsa in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
